Brett Mazey, Lake Manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Nathan Pence, Executive Manager of Environmental Sciences for Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA), and Aundrea Williams, President of the Texas Water Company each presented information about their organization’s respective roles and strategies in addressing current water management issues.

Developers, nonprofits, agency staff gather to discuss water-wise growth in Hill Country

More than 90 nonprofit staff, developers, engineers, architects, and government officials came together in Wimberley on Feb. 26 to discuss the future of water-resilient development in the increasingly water-constrained region of the Texas Hill Country.

The event was organized by a coalition of nonprofits that included the Hill Country Alliance, the Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance, Comal Conservation, and the Headwaters at the Comal.

Texas Map Shows Where Water Shortage Is Blighting Parts of State

A swath of western Texas is facing drought conditions, varying in severity from "moderate" to "extreme," according to data published on Thursday by the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Many of the worst affected areas are in the Rio Grande Valley with Texas state Representative Terry Canales, a Democrat representing District 40 in southern Texas, urging Governor Greg Abbott to "declare a state of disaster" in response.

NBU is integrating the new water source from a collaborative project developed by the Alliance Regional Water Authority (ARWA) and the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority (GBRA).

Cherishing water in New Braunfels: A vision for the future

Community Impact

When picturing New Braunfels, images of lazy tubing adventures on the Comal River or the thrill of a day spent at Schlitterbahn come to mind. The city is synonymous with water, making its preservation a top priority for New Braunfels Utilities (NBU).

The national One Water movement was initially created by the U.S. Water Alliance and has served as the blueprint for other cities. Called One Water New Braunfels, it’s a collaborative effort between NBU, the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) and the City of New Braunfels.

Today, at the Headwaters at the Comal, New Braunfels Utilities (NBU), the City of New Braunfels (CoNB), and the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) launched One Water New Braunfels, a collaborative interagency program designed to ensure water remains a celebrated and protected feature of our community.


The program’s launch comes after several years of planning by the three agencies and additional partners who identified the primary challenges facing New Braunfels’ water resources and the strategic and actionable ways the agencies could work together, and with the community, to address these challenges.
